Day 1 - Leaving Karen

SO our tour is about to start. We paid our deposits and were on our way! I was soooo excited. There were 17 of us: Me, matt, charlie, jenna, rosie, christine, petra, karli, anh, paddy & lynne, andi & birgit, stumpie & ella and 2 randoms who quickly left.

Destination: Uganda Mountains. To get there we had to drive through Kenya. I was in awe with everything and hung my head out of the truck most of the way. The poverty was unreal - people were surviving by selling pots of charcoal, tomatoes or bananas on the side of the roads.

After a long drive we camped at Kembu. We passed Mount Longonot and some buffalo, monkeys and zebra. We went to a local village where the kids were shouting "mzungu" - it took me a few days to work out it meant "lost white man". Every african calls white people mzungus. After a village tour, we pitched our tents (it got dark about 6pm) and everyone went to bed but myself and matt stayed up chatting away having a great time. It was only the first day but I was totally chilled out and so happy, I couldn't stop smiling and already never wanted to go home!
